Watched by the great, the good and the groundhoppers, a goal from Lawrence McKenna gave Heaton Stannington the 2011 George Dobbins League Cup with more or less the last kick of the Northern Football Alliance season at Killingworth Sporting’s Amberley Park. Ashington’s players dropped to their haunches while the winning manager ran off in search of a camera and the Cup was carried into the centre of the pitch. A week after helping deprive Alnwick Town of the title, Heaton joined champions Ponteland, Northumberland Benevolent Bowl winners Percy Main and Challenge Cup holders Seaton Delaval Amateurs in lifting silverware this season.

All four will be back on August 14th.
