Jarrow March On

Dunston’s 1-0 win at South Shields formally brought the 2010-11 Northern League Division One season to a close last night, the Gateshead side ending an impressive campaign – in which they also reached the last eight of the FA Vase and finished runners-up to Gateshead Reserves in the Durham Challenge Cup – in seventh place, four ahead of South Shields.

There’s still over a month to go in the two feeder leagues, with Alnwick and Easington chasing promotion and close finishes looking increasingly likely at the top of both. Jarrow FC, who play second-placed Easington Colliery at home on Saturday, beat Wolviston 2-1 in one of the five Wearside League games taking place tonight. A goal in either half means the South Tyneside team stay fifth, goal difference keeping them ahead of Redcar Athletic after the Teesiders’ 4-1 win at Cleator Moor Celtic. In the shock result of the night, third-placed New Marske lost by the same scoreline at home to Hartlepool FC.

There were games in all three divisions of the Northern Football Alliance too, Seaton Delaval Amateurs following up Monday’s 1-0 win at Alnwick Town with a 2-0 victory over Percy Main to move into fourth place in the Premier Division. Harraby Catholic Club stay third after their 5-1 win at Killingworth Sporting, while Walker Central’s recent run of form came to an end with a resounding 5-0 defeat away to Ashington Colliers. In Division One, newly-promoted Hebburn Reyrolle put eight past Morpeth Sporting Club to stay nine points clear of Whitley Bay ‘A’, who won 3-2 at home to Newcastle East End.

In the Segedunum Derby, Wallsend Town beat Wallsend Boys Club to go second in Division Two. Simonside are third after their win at Red House Farm.

There’s a full programme of games in both leagues this weekend and a list of all the remaining fixtures here and here.
